What is the Alberta Universities Association? The Alberta Universities Association (AUA) is an association comprised of the four Alberta Universities; University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge and Athabasca University. It was created for the purpose of representing their common interests through advocacy and to improve information exchange and facilitate initiative sharing where appropriate. After a long history of collaboration, the AUA was officially formed in Kananaskis during the summer of 2005. Thereafter, Minister David Hancock was informed of the creation of the AUA in July of 2005. Their objectives are to be recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education and other Ministries as the voice of the Universities in Alberta. They would like to raise their concerns and goals to government and in the public debate and to articulate the contribution and role of Universities in the province. As well, they would like to further the role of undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies and research in Alberta post-secondary education and to facilitate a positive climate for life-long learning and community service.
